Datorama Riddle #4: Hawaii Canvas

In celebration of Datorama becoming part of the Salesforce family, a new Data Canvas Custom Theme is being considered to mark the occasion - the Hawaii Theme. This new Custom Theme is unlike any of the other themes, in that it is intended to be dynamic:

During each session, the design will gently fade out and be replaced by another design every 6 seconds , which will be selected randomly from a pool of 4 different designs. Each of the 4 designs is inspired by the sites and colors of Hawaii’s 4 largest islands - Hawaii, Maui, Oahu and Kauai. Although any of the 4 designs can be generated at random at each interval, the same design cannot be repeated twice during consecutive intervals.

To assess how the new Hawaii Theme may affect performance, the developers are in need of a formula with which to calculate the number of possible design combinations within a single session for any given duration ‘T’ (in seconds).

Can you suggest what that formula is?

    @joe_yang no, Pi value is not required. As I said you were really close with what you already had, in fact, it's so close, I'll accept it as the solution :smile: The only thing missing in your formula is the consideration of cases when T/6 is not a whole number. For example, the T= 37 seconds, 37/6 = 6.17. In such a case, the 0.17 fraction of a second, short as it may be, would initiate the beginning of another interval which would mean another design change. Hence any fraction of a second must be counted as a whole. So following from the example above, 6.17 should be rounded up to 7. The mathematical notation for rounding up T/6 = 

    So the formula should in fact be:
